2012:  Look forward with joy, not fear

Director and writer Roland Emmerich is no stranger to taking the fearful point of view. "Independence Day" envisioned a first contact with extraterrestrials who only wanted to kill us all, resulting in a vicious war between our races. "Stargate" had some lovely ideas and brought portals into the mass consciousness, but the plot was driven yet again by war against the being Ra, who was portrayed as a really nasty, vengeful fellow in the film instead of the being of Light that he is. In "The Day After Tomorrow," human civilization is done in by runaway climate change and a new ice age, and now he brings us "2012," in which the world literally falls apart, killing millions and destroying everything in sight. Fear, apparently, sells movies.

There is nothing intrinsically wrong with enjoying a good scare. We like horror films because it's fun to feel scared when we know we are safe. On the other hand, a good marketing campaign will go out of its way to suggest that there is a grain of truth in the film:  the aliens really are out to get us, the ice age is coming real soon now, and 2012 marks the end of the world because the Mayans told us so. And so we wonder.

The film "2012" is just capitalizing on fears that already exist in the mass consciousness, some of which come from supposedly "authoritative" sources. As with anything, it's important to understand that whatever we fear, we create. So if we don't want a mass cataclysm on a global scale, we shouldn't try to manifest one. Instead, we should look at 2012 from the point of view of Love.

December 21, 2012 marks the winter solstice, and astrologically, this is a significant energetic moment for us. In addition, the Mayan calendar does not continue after this date. Instead of assuming the worst, consider some alternatives. The consciousness of our planet has been in the process of shifting for some time now. This isn't news. On 12/21/2012, this shift in consciousness is going to get a big boost from the Universe. Consider it a software upgrade. Is this a problem? That depends on your point of view. Some people may have a negative experience because they expect one. Others will make the shift gracefully. Everyone's experience will be different.

Will the world end? No, although a number of people say it will. And for them, it may. But for many, it will not. The world will continue, the game will continue. We're just matriculating to the next level here. It's going to be fun--if you're willing to let it be fun.

So why does the Mayan calendar end on that date? My theory is that it ends there because the Mayans knew that it was the end of an age (and therefore the beginning of a new one), and that time will no longer be relevant in the new age. For some people, that is true now. Time doesn't really exist, anyway; it's just a framework that helps our brains to function in this world. But in Earth 4.0, we won't need it as much. The Mayan calendar's abrupt end also serves as a reminder that it's time to wake up, remember who we are, and step into our power. There are many such reminders in the world that serve as triggers to wake up and heal.

2012 is not something to fear; it is something to look forward to. Life is meant to be a joy, so look forward with joy. Look forward to even more great things happening for all of us today, tomorrow, and in 2012 and beyond. We are all creating our experience together, collectively. If we anticipate destruction, we are creating it. If we anticipate love, healing, and a better world, then we create that, too. Our thoughts are powerful individually, but together, they are exponentially powerful. What do you want for tomorrow? What's the best outcome you can imagine? Go there. Live there.
