Background: The Blue Jay’s Quarrel with the Moon

The Blue Jay's Quarrel with the Moon is one of my first stories, and I have to say, it's inspired by my ex-husband.

My ex-husband (and others I have known) has this well of anger that he nurses without dealing with its source within himself. (See my articles about healing.) Like the poor blue jay, my ex rages against everything and sees the entire universe (in the story, the moon) as being against him. This is neither reasonable nor true, but there you have it.

What the blue jay fails to realize is that he has the power within himself to change his situation for the better. Find a better hole! He chooses not to because he's centered on the grain (wealth) and is addicted to his own anger and misery, which in the flashback we see is a lifelong pattern for him. If he blames the moon, then surely he's not at fault for anything! It's the moon's fault, for shining!

The blue jay is so ridiculous in his insistence on blaming the moon for his troubles, that it makes him even more unreasonable and crazy. Unresolved anger has a way of doing that...

For myself, I needed to get over being comfortable with living with a person who could not be made happy in any way, shape, or form, because he would not recognize that he was solely responsible for his own happiness. While he never found another hole in another tree, I did, and I learned to accept love from someone who IS capable of being happy. That's my happy ending. I hope that my ex can find his.
